As a recovering FB addict and someone who is trying to use social interaction online to build a business, I try hard to explain the value of participation. I also try to tell people that they will get out of FB only what they put into it. If someone doesn't want to update her status, then none of her friends will either. This group also doesn't seem to understand that their status doesn't need to be something "real," like "taking the train to the mets game at 6:37pm". Or, they feel the pressure to write something clever, so they choose not to write anything at all. This goes to the same, "why would anyone be interested?" question. <br/><br/>On the business side, I'm relieved to see early 20-somethings who are unafraid to share certain things about themselves. (We've all always had a public persona v. a private one -- this is now just a vehicle to show it to a broader audience.) As well, they can distinguish the difference between sharing a bit of personal information about themselves and revealing their social security numbers.
